Press Release: Carlisle, PA – On November 5th, 2009, the first meeting of the Central PA Network of the American Holistic Nurses Association (CPNAHNA) was held at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. The meeting attracted (48) forty-eight practitioners from diverse backgrounds including nursing students, and experienced practitioners interested in learning more about holistic health. Many had education and training beyond conventional care in areas of practice such as: acupuncture, massage, harp therapy, mind-body practices, energy medicine and neurofeedback. Attendees came from all over the Central Pennsylvania region including Gettysburg, New Holland, Harrisburg and Chambersburg. In addition to networking, the “Intro to Holistic Nursing Course” was presented by the network leaders and participants also had the option of receiving nursing continuing education credits. The American Holistic Nursing Association (AHNA) is a non-profit membership association for nurses and other holistic healthcare professionals, serving more than 4,100 members across the US and internationally. Holistic nursing is recognized by the American Nurses Association as a nursing specialty. Holistic nursing is defined as “all nursing that has healing the whole person as its goal.” Nurses seek to become therapeutic partners with people in their care as they recognize the interconnectedness of body, mind, emotion, spirit, social/cultural, relationship, context and environment. AHNA embraces integrative health care modalities as they relate to holistic nursing and encourages the integration of these modalities into diverse practice settings. Network leaders, Bonnie Berk, RN, MS, E-RYT and Elizabeth Murray, RN, HN-BC, CWPC plan to hold meetings every other month with educational programming and informational speakers on topics related to Holistic Health. Whether you are a nurse, health care professional or just want more information about Holistic Health, please feel free to attend.
