Bonnie Presents!

A library of Bonnie's presentations.

Are you happy with your thoughts and feeling? If not, choose to change how you feel? We all make choices. When you wake up in the morning do you jump out of bed in anticipation of a great day or do you hide under the covers hoping that nobody will miss you? Make a choice to be thankful for every day that you are able to walk on this earth. Living a life of gratitude will positively impact your life. When you feel out of sorts, instead of taking it out on people around you, sit quietly and ask yourself what is going on. Remember, you can’t control others and oftentimes you can’t control the situation, however you can control your reactions to them.

Yoga for Health

Yoga means to “yoke” or join together the mind, body and spirit. Through the practice of yoga, we become more aware of ourselves as well as the world around us. Yoga consists of practicing poses or postures that bring balance into the body. Through the breath, we are able to calm the mind, release tension from the body and settle “unsettling”emotions.

Think of the conscious mind as the ocean with lots of agitation, waves of thoughts, concerns and conflict. The deeper you can go below the surface, the more peace and calm you will find. When we perform yoga poses, our awareness is in the present moment. Easy poses allow us to explore the movement of the body and how we connect with our minds and bodies. More difficult poses teach us that through concentration and focus on the breath, we can find comfort even in the most challenging moments of our lives.

The physicality of Yoga allows us to then sit quietly and practice mindfulness meditation; just watching the body, watching our thoughts and refining the practice of being in the present moment. And through this discipline, science has shown a positive relationship between Yoga and Health. When we breathe deeply and consciously, the blood pressure lowers, the heart beats slower and tension is released from the muscles. Yoga has been shown to decrease pain and improve our sense of wellbeing.

“ As long as you do not live totally in the body,
you do not live totally in the Self.”

- B.K.S. Iyengar

Wellness

The key to wellness is to know your body so well, that at any given time, you can give yourself what you need. Imagine if you wore a shirt and never washed it. Eventually, when you did, it would be very difficult to get it completely clean. Your body is the same way. If you ignore what’s happening in your body, then by the time you “tune in” it might be more difficult to make positive changes than if you had taken care of “issues” as they arose. Many of us don’t really pay attention to our bodies until they give us pain. Pain is our bodies’ way of communicating with us. It is our choice whether or not we listen!

So, make it a practice, every day, to tune into your body, if even for just a few minutes and ask yourself, “ How can I serve you today?” Especially if you are not feeling well, ask yourself, “ What are you trying to tell me?” Sit quietly and notice what comes up for you. Listen to your thoughts, your feelings, your ideas. Know that you are not your body, you are not your thoughts, you are not your feelings. Be the objective observer of your life.

Think of your body as a vehicle to take you through this lifetime. Have you been giving it more gas (food) than it needs? Are you giving it enough running time to keep your battery charged? Do you keep it clean inside and out? Do you appreciate its reliability?

“It is proper to doubt. Do not be led by holy scriptures, or by mere logic or inference, or by appearances, or by the authority of religious leaders. But when you realize that something is unwholesome and bad for you, give it up. And when you realize that something is wholesome and good for you, do it.”
- Buddha

Fitness

When we talk about fitness, we are referring to not just the physical, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual realms. We need to exercise our bodies, our minds and belief systems in order to achieve balance and a state of wellness.

“ Our task must be to free ourselves from our prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all humanity and the whole of nature in it’s beauty.”
- Albert Einstein
